Cuando hace cinco años
se hundió aquel barco tan seguro
con cincuenta pasajeros y un piano
steinway
los cincuenta se ahogaron sin remedio
pero el piano en cambio logró
sobrevivir
a los tiburones no les gustan las teclas
así que el steinway esperó tranquilo
ahora cuando pasan
siempre que sea de noche
barcos de turismo o de cabotaje
suele haber pasajeros de fino oído
que si el eterno mar está sereno
o mejor serenísimo
perciben atenuados
y sin embargo nítidos
acordes de brahms o de mussorgsky
de albeniz o chopin
y luego un golpecito
al cerrarse la tapa.

Five years ago when
that safe ship sank
with fifty passengers and one
steinway piano
the fifty sank without remedy
but the piano on the other hand did
survive
sharks do not like keys
so the steinway calmly waited
now when cargo ships and passenger ships pass
whenever it is night time
sometimes there are passengers with an acute ear
that if the eternal sea is serene

they perceive faint
