The Feminine Unknown

Mar 30, 2024

Painting by: Mahalia Xiaoqi Smith

“I think she’s afraid of the unknown.”

Why?

To him, the adventure of the unknown entices him.

He confidently walks past dark alleyways.

Speaks with certainty on matters of uncertainty.

She craves guidance on her path to impossible perfection.

She sees patterns, analyzes trends.

He applies when he meets 60% of the qualifications, she applies when she meets 100%.

He barks. She sings.

She meticulously deconstructs the underlying causes of problems.

She creates life.

Suddenly…

She encounters a wooden bridge.

The fog causes her to hesitate. She lets the gust of wind flow through her silky brown hair, and soft yellow flames begin to ignite.

The unknown?

Illuminated.

Magnified.

Crystalized.

The wood begins to be set ablaze.

Fear? An illusion.
