Something in between a feather, and nested heart.

Starting every morning with a “posh coffee” was a dream come true, but I didn’t realise how important some of the basics were, like always using fresh milk. Nor did I expect the way I see coffee to change permanently. If I knew beforehand, I could have saved myself a lot of trial and error.

Even so, I think it’s still worth it. There are six things I wish I knew first, and if you’re not put off or phased by them, then I can highly recommend jumping in head first. You’ll want to consider—the cost, bean quality, milk supply, your taste palette, coffee consumption, and counter space.

💸 It costs a reasonable amount of money

When you say it out loud it’s obvious, but it’s hard to remember that the basics like instant coffee or drip coffee are totally different to barista style coffee. Not just in equipment, but ingredients.

Instant coffee is obviously the cheapest, and most people would make it like a black or white coffee. Only a bit of milk and perhaps sugar to… err… enhance the flavour…
