Edsel is a Partner of Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra, an international law firm based in Metro Manila, Philippines. Gorriceta Africa Cauton & Saavedra has established itself to be a leader in Technology Law in the Philippines. Edsel is an expert on the global regulatory environment for VC business activities, with a special focus on Southeast Asia. By profession, Edsel is a dual-qualified lawyer in the Philippines and in New York. His specializes in Infrastructure Law, State Contracts, Technology Media & Telecommunications, Regulatory Affairs, Competition Law, Public Policy, and select areas of International and Comparative law. He’s also an advisor on blockchain initiatives, cryptocurrency activities, and initial coin offerings.

Edsel has previously worked as a government official in the Department of Public Works and Highways for several years, providing advisory on and, spearheading right-of-way acquisition for priority projects under the Build Build Build program. He took on leading roles on project implementation. In his early career, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Chief Justice Hilario G. Davide, Jr., of the Philippine Supreme Court and Justice Ma. Alicia Austra-Martinez.

Edsel is a proud Master of Laws alumni of Harvard Law School. At Harvard, he focused on comparative constitutional law, international law, and legal theory and was the Managing Technical Editor of the Harvard Human Rights Journal. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo Law School and is a recipient of the distinguished St. Thomas More Award. Last 2018, Edsel completed his Executive Education at Sloan School of Management of Massachusetts Institution of Technology. There, he took up Blockchain Technologies: Business Innovation and Application.
