If you ask a member of the LaunchGood team to give you an example of an inspiring creative campaign, chances are they will mention “Once Upon a Golden Time: The Magnificent Elephant Clock” with lots of enthusiasm. We got in touch with Saja Muzaini, founder of Qirtas, to ask her some questions about the experience. Here’s what she had to say!

Saja Muzaini is a passionate product designer in Saudi Arabia who graduated with a degree from Jordan and Germany. She has a huge interest in cultures and in engineering. Combining her various interests resulted in the founding of Qirtas. Designing and developing their products is done with great love, a huge amount of dedication and a big chunk of hard work.

Out of all inventions, why did you choose the Elephant Clock?

When I first learned about it, I was in a classroom and I remember how fascinated I was with it. It wasn’t like anything I have seen before.. it looked marvelous to the details and when the professor was explaining its function and how it works, I was simply mesmerized.

What other inventions can we expect from your team?

We have a plan for the next following 2 years but we will reveal them when they are ready.

In learning and researching about past Islamic scholars and inventors, what do you think is missing in either our society or education system that created such scholars and polymaths in the past?

That’s a hard question. I am honestly not sure, but at the time, the scholars were dedicated to new discoveries. Each scholar had a multi-disciplinary depth in philosophy, physics, astronomy, linguistics and they also had a strong belief in God, that was evident in their scientific publications.

Crowdfunding is still relatively new in the Arab world, what was your experience with crowdfunding your product?

It exceeded our expectations.. it is indeed new in the region and it was the first time for us to learn about it and interact in it in any way.

We had to read many tips and consult people around us to come up with the best copy and pledges. It was a fun experience!

How do you hope to inspire the Muslim world?

By letting them discover the hidden secrets of their past, become proud of their identities, and inspired to create new technologies for our future.

At LaunchGood we love sharing stories that inspire our creators, donors, and community to take action. If you have a story that you would like to share to help build an inspired future email us at stories@launchgood.com.
