How influencers like MizzNina helped this NGO smash their goal in just 2 days

In just a few days, MERCY Malaysia had to increase their goal 4 times!

Yup, you heard that right, 4 TIMES!

MERCY Malaysia is a Volunteer Relief Organization that provides medical and humanitarian services locally and abroad. They are the leading medical relief NGO in Malaysia when it comes to providing aid to the front-liners and vulnerable communities affected by Covid-19.

With the help of their main collaborators, Philandure, DopsTV and Global Ehsan Relief, their campaign went live on the day Malaysia announced its first Covid-19 death.

What makes them so successful? Starts with the basics

So how did they do it?

Well — they covered the basics really well:

  1. Quality: The visual content quality is amazing. Just look at their poster, and you’ll know what we mean.
  2. Storytelling: Their story is relatable and emotionally engaging. Their constant updates from the ground made donors feel like their donation has a huge impact even if it’s only RM1!
  3. Creative hashtag: They use #kitajagakita which means ‘let’s care for each other’ in Malay. They included this hashtag in all promotional efforts. This reminds us of the Christchurch campaign with their tagline #kiakaha (Be Strong). Very localized and on point!
  4. Collaboration: Amazing tag team indeed! All of their partners worked so well together and they promoted this campaign to their various networks.
  5. Credibility: All of the partners, influencers and MERCY Malaysia themselves are well-established organizations and brands. Donors do not have to think twice to donate.

But there’s one other thing that made a HUGE difference: Influencers

How did these influencers get involved?

Each of these partners reached out to the influencers whom they were connected to. Some were influencers they knew personally, some because they had worked together before, while some just happened to have a brother who is a celebrity! Sharing resources is key.

All of these local influencers such as MizzNina, Aizat Amdan, Noh Salleh, Kevin Zahri and many more, are either Community Builders or Humanitarian Icons. It was natural for them to jump right in and help. For the love of their country, they were emotionally attached to this campaign and that really helped to push this campaign further. You can see their sincerity in their promotional efforts, be it on their Instagram or their interviews with the media.

MizzNina promoted this campaigns not only once, but multiple times! MashaAllah!

LaunchGood is a platform that they are familiar with and trust. MizzNina has always been an amazing supporter of LaunchGood, sharing our campaigns to her followers. Local celebrity fitness, Kevin Zahri, had crowdfunded on LaunchGood before. Both LaunchGood’s and partners’ credibility helped to tie in these influencers.

Kevin Zahri took the opportunity to promote this campaign on TV and social media. MashaAllah!

Why influencers?

  1. Network: You can tap into their wide network. They can help you reach out to potential donors that you do not have access to.
  2. Inspire: Influencers are called that because they have influence. They can inspire their followers to support the causes that they truly care about by just sharing about it.
  3. Awareness: They are really great at what they are doing professionally, which is to spread the word. They can attract media and that is a big bonus!
Aizat Amdan promoted this campaign on TV and Instagram. MashaAllah!

Is it worth it? Depends on the influencer…

To be honest, not all influencers can bring in good traction.

We’ve had JK Rowling tweet out LaunchGood campaigns before, and the traffic it brought to the website crashed it for a few minutes — but barely resulted in donations.

Rather, you want influencers who’s followers mirror the type of donors you want.

These individuals who are supporting this Malaysia COVID-19 campaign are not just influencers, but they are also community builders and humanitarian icons.

They are no strangers in the world of fundraising, they understood exactly that fundraising is not easy and they have to be persistent in promoting this campaign to their audience.

MashaAllah, they supported this campaign with all their hearts, sincerity was shown in every word and action that they took, they all worked hard! May Allah reward every effort and bless them and their loved ones always, ameen…
