Dear LaunchGooder,

Maybe you’re not fasting in these blessed days and you’re trying to find an act of worship that is going to make these days special. Maybe you are the type to create a schedule and journal all of the great ways that you are taking steps closer to Allah.

You’re trying to figure out how to kick things into high gear and so you’re checking things off of your list.

Read Quran: 👍🏿

Fast: 👍🏿

Smile a bit more: 😬

But you’ve forgotten one very important thing, that there is no deed that is more beloved to God than the obligatory deeds.

You can do all of the voluntary actions in the world, but if you neglect the obligatory you’ll find that those extra actions are like icing without a cake.

The question then arises, which of your obligatory deeds are of the most importance?

Well, I’d have to say that your five prayers are, don’t believe me?

Read this Hadith Qudsi.

Allah (mighty and sublime be He) says: “The first of his actions for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayers.”

When one holds tightly to them, they will find innumerable blessings in every aspect of their life.

Not to mention, the greatest blessing in this life is the blessing of being able to worship more.

So what do I suggest?

The Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings upon him) said: “One who performs Isha prayer in congregation, is as if he has performed Salat for half of the night. And one who performs the Fajr prayer in congregation, is as if he has performed Salat the whole night.”

Maybe you aren’t able to stand up all night in prayer, but you do have the ability to wake up timely, nudge your family and pray together. If you are a convert like myself, or if you don’t have family around you then you’ll always find a congregation at your local masjid.

The point is, pray Fajr and Isha in a congregation and enjoy the rewards.

You won’t regret it, and if you do…

that’s just weird.

Your brother,
