Get started charging for access to Discord servers, roles, and channels

Discord is a powerful chat platform — originally designed for gaming — that specializes in text, image, video and audio communication between users. In recent years it’s become a popular way of creating profitable, subscription-based chat communities.

It’s been used to launch paid communities for everything from funding non-profits, premium cook groups, expert communities, stock, and financial trade alerts groups, to supporting podcasts and YouTube creators.

A couple of examples include:
Madaz Money
The Laced Network

With LaunchPass you can create a paid Discord group in literally five minutes. This short guide aims to step you through the entire process.

This guide will cover the following steps:

  1. Create your Discord server
  2. Connect your Discord to LaunchPass
  3. Activate your account and start your trial
  4. Connect your bank to receive payment
  5. Create, publish, and share your paid Discord server

Step 1: Create your Discord server

Creating a Discord server is free and easy.

First, log in to Discord, or signup for your free Discord account here: Discord

Once you are logged into your Discord account click the (+) button to create your own server.

Give your community a cool name, add your logo, and click “Create”.

You now have your own Discord server!

Step 2: Connect your Discord to LaunchPass

Login to LaunchPass in order to connect your Discord. You do this by clicking the “Signin with Discord” button in the upper right corner.

Select your new Discord server from the dropdown and click “Authorize” to so LaunchPass can send invites and manage members.

Step 3: Start your trial

You’re now logged into LaunchPass and can start creating your offer!
Click “Billing” in the upper right to start your free 14-day trial. This will allow you to start charging for access to your group.

Step 4: Connect your bank account to receive payment

Once you start your trial you’ll have the option to connect your own Stripe account or link your bank directly. Click “settings” to connect your own Stripe account, or “Link your debit card” to connect your bank directly. If you want to link your own Stripe remember to do this before getting any subscribers.

Step 5: Create and publish your paid offer

Now that you’re ready to create your paid offer, you have two choices. A “paid group” sells access to an entire Discord server, while a “paid channel” sells access to the Discord server with the addition of a private channel and role with the same name. New members will receive their invite from Discord as soon as the payment processes.

For our purposes, we will create a “paid channel” called “premium”. One benefit of this is that when a member accepts their invite they will also have the “premium” role added. Roles are a great way to sell access to different sets of privileges and channels. It’s also possible to create as many “paid channel” offers as you want.

For our offer, we set our logo, added a YouTube video, named our paid channel, provided a 3-day free trial, a fee of $99/month and added a description of what members will receive for purchasing access to the community.

All we have left to do is set our brand styles and publish our page. You now have a link to share with your audience that they can use to subscribe to your brand new Discord community!

We hope you found this tutorial helpful, and if you have any questions at all feel free to email us at support@launchpass.com or visit us at http://launchpass.com/discord.

Looking forward to seeing what kind of paid Discord community you create!
