We’re excited to announce that Dr. Haixu Tang, Professor of Informatics and Computing, Director of Data Science Academic Programs, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at Indiana University, Bloomington, has joined the Lavita advisory council.

Dr. Tang has published in academic journals and conferences extensively on the topics of Biomedical and Health Data Science, particularly emphasizing the application of AI and Machine Learning, implications for Data Security and Privacy, as well as the use of Trusted Execution Environment architecture for privacy computing.

His research has been featured in top-tier academic publications such as Science, Nature Communications, Nature Genetics, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, accumulating nearly 15,000 citations. Prof. Tang is a distinguished recipient of the NSF CAREER Award.

Prof. Tang is a Principal Investigator of the Center for Distributed Confidential Computing, a multi-institution academic collaboration between leading research centers in the US, including Carnegie Mellon University, Yale University, Duke University, Purdue University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Indiana University. Prof. Tang is also a core faculty member at the Center for Bioinformatics Research at Indiana University.

About Scalable Secure Computing and Privacy of Data-in-Use:

The Center for Distributed Confidential Computing (CDCC)’s mission is to advance and promote technical foundations for scalable data-in-use protection on cloud and edge systems. With the advent of AI and LLM applications in various industries, data privacy is at the forefront of concerns that arise from widespread adoption of these applications. According to CDCC, the toughest challenge in privacy protection is ensuring privacy of data-in-use, given that encrypted data needs to be decrypted before it can be utilized, thereby exposing data content to unauthorized parties. As a core PI of the CDCC, Prof. Tang’s research spans technologies and frameworks that provide scalable, practical, verifiable, and usable data-in-use protection, particularly in the context of health, genomic, and biomedical data.

We are fortunate to work with Prof. Tang as our advisor. Lavita is on the verge of further expansion and groundbreaking advancements with its unique healthcare information marketplace driven by patients. Prof. Tang’s expertise, experience, and dedication in computational biology for biomedical sciences will greatly support Lavita’s mission to transform the global landscape of health data management, sharing, and utilization. This will result in enhanced healthcare accessibility and improved well-being for individuals worldwide.
