“When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes.” Erasmus

If you are anything like myself, there is a good chance you can relate to the above quote by the Dutch philosopher Erasmus.

I have what some may call an illness, it results in the purchase of any book recommended to me, whether that be in person, on a podcast, or in a blog post.

For that reason, I tend to be over-cautious in my own book recommendations.

I have only included books that have had a real impact on my life and I’m optimistic they can be just as impactful on your life too.

The Way of the Superior Man: A Spiritual Guide to Mastering the Challenges of Women, Work, and Sexual Desireis an absolute classic by David Deida and a great starting point. This book provides numerous aha moments and whilst controversial at times, if read with an open mind it can provide you with a much deeper understanding of masculine and feminine energy.

Man’s Search for MeaningAn extraordinary piece of work, described by many as “life-changing.” The author, Viktor E Frankl, was a Nazi concentration camp survivor. This book comes recommended by a number of thought leaders which include Jordan Peterson and Tony Robbins.

The 48 Laws of Power — Robert Greene’s book examines the techniques and strategies used throughout the ages to attain and maintain power. I believe it is a must-read for anyone who has the desire to achieve excellence in their field. Whilst you may not wish to implement these ideas yourself, It would be silly not to have at least some awareness of them.

Hard Times Create Strong Men: Why the World Craves Leadership and How You Can Step Up to Fill the Need — I wanted to include a book that had been published in the last 5 years and this one definitely stood out.

It teaches the meaning of being a man and how to accept responsibility for your role as a man in the family and society. I would recommend getting the audio version of this, read by the author himself Stefan Aarnio.

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives — I would recommend Dan Millman’s book to anyone who may be lacking a bit of motivation or going through a tough time in their life.

This book will definitely make you think about the way you live. It's also written in a semi-fictional style and I would class it as an easy read compared to some of the other recommendations.

All of these books would be a great addition to any man’s bookshelf, they all provide different lessons and different takes on how to best live life.
