The Journey of Law School Starts Now

Why did Joey and I want to start using this platform? Great question. To be perfectly honest, I had no clue what Medium was until my legal partner in crime (figuratively, not literally) told me about it during the winter holidays. He spoke highly of the platform based on the modern biblical words’ millennials receive from Gary Vee podcasts.

When Joey told me that Medium would allow us to connect with other law students and legal professionals by sharing our personal trials and tribulations during law school, I was skeptical, but also loved the idea. My only skepticism came from my own ability to write. I assumed reader expectations would be through the roof, expecting legal jargon of everyday life, coming from an academic minded, sophisticated law student. When in reality, I’m just a regular guy, that’s taking law school day by day!

I’ve never been a standout academically, and sometimes even struggled to get by in high school and undergrad. But, with that said, the one thing I have done up to this point in my life is: bust my behind in all my endeavours! My road to law school has not been an easy one, consisting of constant stress, doubt, and anxiety as I had no clue what else I would do with my life after having dedicated 6 years of my life to get here. (I’ll talk a lot more about this in other posts and Joey will get mad if I don’t produce enough content, so I am going to hold off on this topic for now — a “cliffhanger” per se).

Back to our focus for this post, why do I want to use this platform and what do I want to achieve? Well, I have many goals that I want to achieve on this platform. First, I want to tell my story and how I got here through my personal journey. Second, I want to provide my perspectives on the process of getting into law school, navigating law school, and entering the legal profession, while keeping it as real as possible.

I will be the friend in law school, you never knew you had.

There are a lot of foggy areas when considering applying to law school. My goal is to clear the fog and make the journey I’m currently on as easy to navigate for you.

I would have to say that my main objective here is to be the friend in law school, you never knew you had. (corny? I don’t care, because it’s true). I never really had anyone I could reach out too and ask questions about the process of considering law school. I always wished I had someone to talk too. I want to be here to answer all the questions about law school and the process of getting here, even those that seem too bizarre to come out of your mouth.

I know what it’s like to question everything about law school. I didn’t really have anyone’s brain to pick while I went through that struggle. The closest thing I had was lawstudents.ca forums and who really knows who these people are that post in these forums? Were they super smart? Were they…not so smart? Were they trolls, trying to screw me over?

These are the thoughts that went through my head while I wished I had someone to answer the simplest of my questions like, what do you even do at law school? What are the classes like? What can I do to prep for law school? Consider me your “ask Jeeves” for all LSAT, law applications for Canada and the US, and any other law-school related questions. So bottom line? I just want to help.

I am by no means a top student in my class, nor do I consider myself the “typical law student”, I struggle every day with the material and not knowing what every other word means in some readings but the reality is, I have the knowledge and experiences that have gotten me to the position I am in now and what good would that be if I couldn’t share it with all of you? I can’t wait for my next post to be released and I hope you feel the same way.

I can’t wait to embark on this journey with all of you.
