Artificial Lawyer reports that IBM Watson has partnered with two of Sweden’s leading law firms, MAQS and Lindahl, as well as legal knowledge management consultancy, VQ, to build an AI-driven contract review and advice system. Reportedly, the team behind the project recommend that one of the best ways for a law firm to learn all about how AI really works is to go and build an AI tool for yourself!

AI Beats Human Lawyers in CaseCrunch Prediction Showdown
Legal tech start-up CaseCrunch challenged lawyers to see if they could predict the outcome of a number of financial product mis-selling claims better than CaseCrunch could. Artificial Lawyer reports the results with CaseCrunch’s predictive algorithms and modelling of legal issues scoring almost 87% accuracy in terms of predicting the success or failure of a claim, whilst the lawyers who competed scored just 62%.
Orbital Witness wins Airbus’ Global Earth Observation Challenge
Airbus has named Orbital Witness the winner of its “Global Earth Observation Challenge”. Orbital Witness are part of Mishcon de Reya’s innovation incubator MDR LAB, and delivered an informative presentation at last week’s Legal Geek Conference about how they are using satellite imagery to plug information gaps in real estate due diligence. Orbital Witness received a voucher worth € 50,000 for the acquisition of satellite data and according to Airbus “will benefit from both technical and business coaching”. The Global Earth Observation Challenge encourages start-ups to innovate and develop new applications primarily based on Airbus’ satellite data.
