As indie artists, we’re all trying to grow our audience. There are a few very strategic ways to grow besides just releasing music.

Finding Gigs

Playing shows not only helps you gain exposure by playing to new audiences, but can also help boost your online presence. Having shows lined up also helps your chances with playlist placement.

Booking opening shows requires a lot of legwork — which artists should you be targeting for an opening slot? Do those artists have shows coming up in your area? Laylo can help you minimize the work needed to book a show.

Here’s how:

First find your artist in the platform, or add yourself manually if you don’t see yourself.

In Laylo’s Interface, navigate to your artist page, and go to the Your Moves tab. In there, there is a section for “You Should Open Up For”

Type in the location where you want to book your opening show and we’ll deliver the best matches based on your criteria. We are showing artists that are similar to you, with shows coming up in the area you’ve selected. You are able to see the date of the show, the venue, and the existing lineup. If you like the match, you can easily email the artist/booking agent by clicking on the email link.

In your email, be sure to include what your draw is (how many people you can get to the venue), and your basic social media/streaming metrics.

Don’t worry if it doesn’t work or isn’t a match yet, ask them to keep you on their radar.

Finding Collaborations

Collaborating with other artists can often help kickstart a career. It can even be very mutually beneficial to both parties if done right.

The hard part is finding artists who are going to be willing to collaborate with you, and who have similar fans. Of course, we all want to collaborate with Chance the Rapper, but thats not necessarily feasible.

In Laylo, navigate to the “You Should Collaborate With” feature within Your Moves. By default, it will show high potential collabs based on your size and similar audience. To narrow it down further, you can plug in a similar artist, and a desired follower range.

The tool can be used to find artists to directly collaborate with — ex. If you’re looking for a rapper, a producer etc. It can also be helpful to find artists to remix your songs.

These features are designed to help you grow your audience. Let us know how they work for you :)
