HOW FAITHFUL PEOPLE GET HURT!
The downside of being seen as the “reliable one, dependable, faithful” etc. is often overlooked because the upside of having this as a reputation is so attractive. But what a lot of people don’t see is that this group can often fall between the cracks and accidently become ignored by the very systems and institutions that they serve.
How can this happen? it’s easy. For example in church, the focus of thier mission. including the message, is often geared toward the un-saved or lost. In fact, its the “faithful” who will be setting up, ministering or organizing such events. But if a church, team or business fails to cultivate their “faithful” they could find themselves winning souls but losing lives in the process.
Here’s the problem: Too many people are assuming that just because you are reliable and dependable that you are OK! emotionally, spirtually etc. So why check on them? why ask if they’re ok?”
“Johnny? he’s rock solid, I never have to worry about him.”
On the surface this sounds like an endorsement of Johnny’s dependability but for some this could be a thinly veiled justification for not following up with Johnny, afterall its easier to assume that he’s ok than to pick up a phone and ask.
Look I get it. In our world “its the squeaky wheel that gets the grease”, while the well oiled machine gets worked until the bolts fall off. But we’re not machines and when people break down there is no guarantee that they will run again.
This happened to me and after 12-years of serving faithfully at a ministry that I got involved with in college, I stopped and left that ministry. It would take another 12-years before I would begin to serve again.
That’s why I wrote “How To Fire Devil As Your Life Coach, Why Christians Fail And How To Stop.” now available on Amazon.
I wanted to provide a tool for both ministries and experienced Christians to guard again the frustration, discouragment and anger that faithful Christians are experiencing everyday while providing practical strategies to guard against “burnout”
