Thinking of Europe
What’s In A Lieu-Dit Name
A poem about places with names
A lieu-dit,
local history shared
through a named place. connecting today
and tomorrow, to our
yesterdays.
Of course we know, or can know, about all those places on the maps that are recognized entities. Especially from a governance point-of-view. But there are, everywhere in the world, also names for specific places that have a certain local historical meaning, but got lost in translation into bureaucracy-speak. In France, these places have the designation “Lieu-dit”.
