The desire to become an entrepreneur in Montreal has tripled over the last 10 years, and from November 12 to 16 we have celebrated entrepreneurship all over the world as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018.
This therefore makes it the perfect opportunity to present 6 passionate, risk-taking entrepreneurs who have begun Le Wagon Montréal’s full-stack program this fall in order to learn to code. They have embraced the challenge to invest in 2 months of intensive learning to acquire a new skillset to empower their entrepreneurial venture with strong technical know-how.
We met with Anne-Marie Laplante.

Describe your startup, in a nutshell
I launched Flourish Creative in 2015 to provide graphic design & photography services.
Why are you learning to code with Le Wagon?
As a graphic designer, I wanted to have more creative freedom. I have a few friends who did Le Wagon coding bootcamp and I liked the program and its intensity. So I’ve jumped in!
What benefit does it bring to you as an entrepreneur?
The Web is a living thing and it’s great to learn from professionals that work with it all the time, especially because it’s so complex. With this new skillset, I gain more freedom for theme/template customization and can build new projects from scratch
3 tips for aspiring entrepreneurs?
- Take it slowly (don’t quit your day job just yet!) until you can financially support yourself
- Make sure you have the stamina to push through hardships because it’s definitely not an easy ride
- Make sure you maintain your vision. Without you the project has no spirit.
