We at Le Wagon love entrepreneurship. We love the Montreal startup community and we truly believe that sharing experiences can greatly benefit the Montreal tech ecosystem. For that reason, we invite successful entrepreneurs every season to share their story with us. They typically talk about how they got started, their failures, their successes and most importantly, the passion that drives them to keep growing their business and enjoying their journey. These Wagon Talks are truly inspiring.

Last spring we invited 3 great Montreal entrepreneurs and we asked them to share the best pieces of advice that they could give to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Marie-Philip Simard, CEO & founder of Chic Marie. After spending a few years as a successful lawyer, Marie-Philip realized that she craved the freedom and creativity of entrepreneurship, and left her comfortable job to strike out on her own. She developed the concept for Chic Marie, a monthly subscription service for women’s clothing, while attending The Founder Institute and decided to launch officially after the program ended.

Her advice for people who want to leap into entrepreneurship:

1) Go as fast as you can 💯

2) Try to get traction as soon as possible 💵

3) If you get punched in the face, pick yourself back up and keep moving forward 💪

Xavier Peich, CEO and co-founder of SmartHalo. After studying Political Science in University, Xavier launched SmartHalo, an application that brings your biking experience to a new level. He launched his business with what was left in his bank account: 25$. By creating tools that encourage cycling, he hopes to transform cities, make them greener, more hospitable and ultimately more human.

“When building your product, try to sell it as fast as possible to get market validation from potential customers” — Xavier Peich

Philip Barrar, CEO & founder of Mylo. A serial entrepreneur, Philip is on a mission to help Canadians achieve their financial goals with Mylo, an application that rounds up your purchases to the nearest dollar and invests the spare change. They use machine learning to make personalized recommendations that help their users make smart financial decisions.

His 3 tips on starting and launch your own business:

1) Never give up, keep going until you succeed 🎯

2) Start early, network and help others before asking for money 🔄

3) Let your customers build your product 👨‍👨‍👧
