60 Second Stillness

A tool for leadership reflection and restoration…

In this article and accompanying video I share a practice that I’ve been refining over the last 3 years, which I’ve found hugely beneficial to my development as a leader. A simple exercise of pulling over on my commute home, pausing and being still for a minute, during which I have time to reflect on the day, my successes, my learnings, and my priorities for the day ahead.

The view from the lookout where I habitually have 60 seconds of stillness on my commute home

Here’s the link to the first 60 second stillness video on youtube — What have I learnt about leadership this week — Stop, let the stress go, and the ideas flow!

This also has become a valuable intermission between the end of the work day and the beginning of family time, and important bridge to build between the two, and a useful ‘nudge’ to tell both the thinking and feeling brains that work is done, and family are not the focus.

I hope you find this helpful, and that potentially you can partake in your own version of this practice, potentially at varying points during the day if that works better for you, but certainly at some point consistently.

I’ll be very interested to hear your thoughts and experiences, so feel free to drop me a line to timc@4ileadership.com, if you’d like to share your 60 second stillness.

Thanks for your time and attention,

All the best,

Tim
