When He Says Detroit-Style Pizza, Little Caesars Gets Irked

DETROIT — Detroit is known for cars and music, but it’s also a pizza leader. So national rivals now say they, too, have “Detroit-style pizza.”

Detroit-based Little Caesars gets a little irked by Texas-based Pizza Hut’s version of “Detroit-style pizza.” But, of course, neither invented “Detroit-style,” which pre-dates them going to Detroit’s original Buddy’s Pizza.

Little Caesars and Pizza Hut are among the Big Three global pizza chains, so they get more national attention. Detroit-based Little Caesars is the third largest chain behind №1 ranked Domino’s (based in nearby Ann Arbor, Michigan) and №2 Pizza Hut. So two of the big three have Michigan ties.

When you say “Detroit-style” in Michigan, locals ask, “You mean Buddy’s?” But, as Buddy’s Chief Brand Officer Wes Pikula told Crain’s Detroit Business:
