This is an educational project created in the context of the Leadership and Emotional Intelligence Lab of Panteio University of Social and Political Sciences.

The recent lockdown appeared to be a challenging period for all of us, causing many problems and creating obstacles in everyday life. However, new opportunities for self-improvement emerged. Key phrases such as “self-reflection” and “emotional self-awareness” became interesting, trending topics. After a long and thorough observation of how people, especially our peers, behave during quarantine, we concluded that a sizable percentage of students, seniors and upcoming professionals turned their attention to cultivating skills and abilities of emotional intelligence through a process of self-awareness and self-reflection.

Our Project, Major Aid, is aimed at creating and empowering future leaders. Leaders with fierce personalities and capable of managing any crisis. Although our role is more advisory, we fully base our results, tips and suggestions with well-documented opinions of professional specialists (life-coaches and psychologists). Moreover, our target group mostly includes students and graduates preparing to enter the job market. Because they are one of the most productive groups in society, we seek to develop core skills of emotional intelligence. Our goal is to focus on general self-management and self-awareness, two key pillars of emotional intelligence.

To begin with, we studied the aspects of emotional intelligence and focused on three main pillars: self-awareness, adaptability, and goal achievement. Next, we focused on three key areas in which emotional intelligence is really important, these are society, the workplace in general, and leadership positions. Emotional intelligence has a crucial role in numerous aspects of one’s life and can be very beneficial for their careers, by achieving the positions they desire and achieving their goals.

The above directions and priorities of our project were not accidental but were established based on certain behaviors and trends that were observed during the quarantine period.

Based on the goals and desires of many individuals, we decided to facilitate their personal enterprise, contributing to the development of the key pillars of emotional intelligence. To do this, we had to focus primarily on the most crucial self-improvement skills, always in line with our perspective. By developing these skills of emotional intelligence, the individual will be led to better behavior management and they will conquer any social or professional accomplishment of their liking.

Our target group is university students from 18 to 24 years old, whether they work or not. Young people are productive and want to make their dreams come true, but the current situation prevents them from accomplishing their goals. This pandemic has changed their daily lives and frozen their plans.

In order to understand the needs of our target group, we created two personas. They are university students who either live alone or with their families. We analyze the concerns and problems they faced in quarantine and also in the return in normality and how they took advantage of this situation for their personal development.

Taking into consideration our target group, we proceeded to form a list of questions with the purpose of conducting interviews with psychologists, neuropsychologists and life coaches who expertise in emotional intelligence, and therefore can give a thorough opinion to our subject of interest. More specifically, we got in touch with Chrisanthi Passa (Psychologist-Psychotherapist), Nasia Gouroukeli (Psychologist graduate from Panteion university)and Vally Petrou (Life-Coach, who informed us about her self-produced content). As a team, we were pleasantly surprised by their willingness to take part in our project, resulting in extremely instructive and educational sessions with interesting results.

In order to further help our audience in achieving its goals, we collected secondary, pluralistic content, both of Greek as well as international production.

This content is split into 6 fundamental categories: (1) books & eBooks, (2) seminars & courses, (3) YouTube videos, (4) websites, (5) TEDx talks and (6) podcasts. The secondary content, consequently, touches many different forms of information in order to better fulfill the different needs and desires.

The entirety of this content, regardless of its format, focuses on emotional intelligence in general as well as the three aforementioned skills, providing the audience with all the needed information.

All primary and secondary content that has been collected will be communicated through the channels of Major Aid, which are all under construction.

The most important of all is to approach our audience, an audience that we belong to, with all the needed information and digital tools, responding to their numerous needs. The need for self-improvement during the lockdown is something that we must keep on pursuing while our daily life is gradually going back to normal.

Stay tuned for updates!
