Embracing a mindset of abundance is taking Rupal Patel of Entreprenora to new heights
It is a pleasure to feature Rupal Patel here on the Leadership Gazette. After a thrilling career in the intelligence services, Rupal knew at this point in her career she didn’t want to work for someone else, so started her first business, a real estate investment and development group.
While Rupal was growing that business she found herself coaching and mentoring other entrepreneurs and loved helping them along their own path to success. This led to the launch of Entreprenora. “I knew I could help more founders scale, grow and thrive. We are now over 1000 members strong in 21 countries!” said Rupal Patel. “Entreprenora is a community of driven women with brimming brains and overflowing spirits, and I love that by helping our community, I can help more women become financially and personally abundant role models for others”.
Rupal’s enthusiasm for women in business is captivating and it’s my pleasure to discuss leadership with her at the Leadership Gazette today.
What does your business do?
We help women founders start, scale, and super-charge their businesses. We focus on the whole person, not just the “founder” because our ethos is one of integrating our whole selves into our whole lives. We are not compartmented people, and what sets Entreprenoras apart is that we work carefully to harmonize all the different “hats” we wear, and not overburden ourselves with the idea of balancing everything “perfectly.”
What are the most important values to you and the business that you lead?
We work hard to make sure we help our members unleash their potential and reach new heights in an environment of growth, sharing, openness, and abundance.
What is the best piece of leadership advice you have received?
Know who you are. Study yourself diligently, and surround yourself with people who aren’t afraid to call you out or push you forward.
As a special feature for #IWD, what does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It reminds me that we all have work to do to make sure we don’t need days like IWD in the future! And it reminds me that equality is something we need to talk about and commit to every day, not just once a year. We are making progress but there is still so much more that needs to happen for the benefit of ALL.
Can you tell us about a time that you have made the wrong decision?
For so much of my life, I had my head on a swivel, looking this way and that to see what other people were doing, and judging myself favourably or unfavourably against them. This “comparison-itis” is toxic!… and it slows us and our businesses down. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I finally started focusing on MY life and what I care about and what I am doing, and ignore everything else. I have found that embracing a mindset of abundance means I don’t worry about what other people are doing because I know there is enough success and wealth and happiness out there for everyone. It is not a competition!
How do you get others to accept your ideas?
I don’t “get” anyone to do anything! I share what I think is valuable, and if the people I share it with find it valuable too, then they take it on board.
What is your next move?
Our base is growing internationally, mostly in the US and Europe, so I want to make sure Entreprenora is accessible no matter where you live. In addition to the live events and in-person Boardroom we run, we are starting to put together an online membership!
Thank you, Rupal, for sharing your insights with us.
