Key to becoming successful leader

Through my first research about leadership at the workplace, I have learned some very important skills that make up a great leader. Out of many, the first important skill for a leader is to become trustworthy. The reason behind this is according to Rossiter (1998), “People respond to leaders they can trust. They need to able to count on their leader to do the right thing, whether it’s in school, a club, or a job” (p.26). Since this is the first and main skill to become great leader there are few strengths that can help you to build it:

Compassion: ability to look beyond yourself. The more you are willing to understand others the better the relationships you will have, which helps to build trust tremendously.

Consistency: an ability to do important little things every day to produce better results. Results take time but continuous effort will show big outcomes, When others see you accomplishing, they will look up to you for more and believe in you.

Commitment: ability to stay dedicated to goal or organization for successful outcomes. When you are focused on achieving more your team will reflect same characteristics. They will also trust you more because they see you doing it.

It can be hard to become good leader but it can definitely be learned. It takes time to build yourself and the organization. The culture of the organization will reflect your character and the only way you can make sure it’s positive is by making sure you are presenting yourself the way you want to see your organization. This relates back to my theory of work, which is to look at your job an opportunity to build yourself. Starting to build trust can be a great start toward becoming a great leader, which can provide the endless amount of opportunities for self-growth and for having a successful organization.
