It was great to see Paul Makonda, the Regional Commissioner of Arusha, Tanzania visited the Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD)on Wednesday, June 28, 2024. This visit underscores the institute’s critical role in shaping future leaders and enhancing community engagement through education.

Commissioner Makonda engaged with the students and faculty, emphasizing the importance of utilizing their education to alleviate poverty and enhance the economic well-being of their communities. His message was clear and inspiring:

Education at TICD is a tool for societal transformation, meant to be applied beyond the classroom walls to real-world challenges.

He commended the students for their dedication to their studies and their active participation in community and governmental initiatives, highlighting their potential to drive positive change and support government efforts in development.

The highlight for me was seeing Dr. George Bakari, now the Rector of TICD. I knew Dr. Bakari as an assistant lecturer during my time at the institute.

Dr. Bakari holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Human Rights and a PhD in Comparative Regional Integration Law, showcasing his deep academic background and commitment to education. His leadership has greatly benefited the institute. Under his guidance, TICD has not only maintained its high standards but has also improved its facilities and expanded its impact, thanks to significant governmental support.

Seeing the progress and recognition the institute continues to receive reaffirms my appreciation for the solid educational foundation it provided me. The visit from Commissioner Makonda, supported by Dr. Bakari’s exemplary leadership, marks a significant milestone for TICD, reinforcing its mission of nurturing knowledgeable and engaged civic leaders.

Currently, TICD offers a variety of programs, including advanced degrees such as Master’s degrees in Community Development, as well as project planning. These new programs provide more opportunities for students to gain in-depth knowledge and skills to address complex community issues. The institute’s commitment to continuous improvement ensures that students receive the best possible education to meet the demands of today’s world.

As TICD continues to grow and adapt, it remains a beacon of learning and development. The institute’s impact on individual lives and societal development is profound. I am proud to be an alumnus of such a forward-thinking institution that truly makes a difference in the community development and beyond.
