Conflict is part of life. Our personal and professional lives are filled with conflict that we must learn how to manage. Knowing how to manage conflict successfully can turn conflict into a win-win situation for both parties involved.

In this article I will give you some tips and strategies that will help you be more successful at managing conflict.

One of the big mistakes new leaders make is avoiding conflict at all costs. Some conflicts are necessary to move the organization forward and continue to get great results.

This is one of the most challenging areas for leaders to develop confidence in. No one likes conflict, but as a leader, it is our job to manage this necessary evil.

Two Reasons Leaders Fail At Managing Conflict

  1. The ability to regulate emotions and remain calm when emotions run high. Many new leaders do not have the ability or haven’t learned yet to keep their emotions in check. It is hard to understand this, but it is a necessary tool to master if you are to negotiate conflict resolution successfully. There is never a need for rage when it comes to conflict resolution.

2. They are not open to others’ perspectives. Let the other person tell their side of the story. Don’t shut them down. This should be a two-way dialogue, not just a one-sided…
