Bite sized leadership advice

This is the *most* important phrase that I have learned in my decades as an agent of change.

Use it early, use it often.

“I am here for your success and not your comfort”.

It sets the expectation that at some time in our burgeoning, everything is going well at the start, conversation we may have to have a conversation which is not unicorns and fairy dust. It creates permission.

As humans, to protect our safety we work to please our bosses; those with the hiring and firing rights. The more we soften the impact and make things easy for them the more we trade away the outcomes.

Imaging a world where the sum total of all the transformational change is limited by the comfort of the leaders. Sound familiar?

Are you facilitating that?

As an agent; In the good times cultivate the relationship you have with a change leader, sponsor or stakeholder knowing that at some point you will have to have a success vs comfort conversation.

As a leader; choose to be surrounded by people who are honest with their opinions, who share the vision for the outcome and keep you on the path, even if a tougher conversation is needed.

Choose people who are there for your success, not your comfort. It is the wise choice!
