Introduction to the Tafseer of the Qur’an
The Preliminaries required before we dive into the Quranic Tafseer
This is the first article in the series of Quranic tafseer. The following and what will follow is a collection of what I have learned from my teachers and different sources in the science of tafseer, with a intention to convey ahead as much as I am capable of.
Before we go into the tafseer of the Qur’an, there are some preliminary points we must be aware of.
Intention
The first thing before we read and learn about the Qur’an and its tafseer is to rectify our intention. Our intention in learning about the Qur’an must be solely to acquire the pleasure of Allah, the qurb of Allah. We read and understand the Qur’an in order to know what Allah is saying to us, and how to live our lives so Allah is pleased with us, and to go back to where we came from, Jannat al Firdaus. At the same time, we must also intend to give back to others, to learn and teach what we have been granted of the sacred uloom and not to learn the Quran to present as a proof for our own cause or to argue, or to boast to the people that we know the Quran.
