Leading Lines visits… BarzGlobal
Power down your electronics and step out in to the world of natural body weight exercises. Shorai (founder of BarzGlobal) has a strong focus on functional movement, whilst specialising in calisthenics & traditional yoga all at the cost of your will power.
As I entered Kilburn grange park, I could see groups of people doing jumping jacks and swiftly dropping into press ups. Naturally as I got closer the sound of encouragement and the look of intensity made me both intrigued and intimidated to join in.
It was easy to join the group, a warm welcome from one of the trainers, dressed in a black short sleeve BarzGlobal t-shirt, shook my hand and got me to sign in. As I was doing so the range of ages, races and abilities put me at ease as I knew I wasn’t walking into an elites only club.
I join a station that suited my ability and straight away I was put to work. Squats to planks, strict form star jumps (well acknowledged by the BarzGlobal people) to pull ups and diamond press ups, it’s fair to say that within the hour I had worked more muscles than I knew possible.
Each break was filled with oranges, raisins, water and OSU chants (meaning roots) that quickly picks up moral to give participants the drive to move onto the next workout.
The energy the trainers posses is infectious and I automatically felt like I was apart of a community that accepted me for just showing up and taking part, which doesn’t happen often.
