An Ode To: The T-Shirt

The second half of the dynamic duo I mentioned earlier, the t-shirt defines a menswear classic; as American as apple pie and worn by everyone from movie stars to the average joe, it’s importance in a wardrobe cannot be overstated. A properly fitting t-shirt can make a man look better than a $2,000 dollar suit could, even if said t-shirt came in a pack of three that retails for five bucks.
That being said, you don’t want to go for any ol’ tee. Instead, leave behind the tie-dyes and Welcome Week shirts, and go for a shirt in a simple grey or white — my personal favorite. Be wary though. Whichever color you choose, be sure to keep the thing looking crisp and clean; no pit-stains or tears. Details such as a pocket on the chest will help differentiate this shirt from your standard undershirt as well. As with the oxford, keep the tee close fitting in the shoulders and slim through the torso. One more pitfall: Be wary of excess fabric in the sleeves. They should hug your biceps like you hug your mom or girlfriend — in a cozy and tender embrace. Sleeves that are too tight and you’ll look like you shop at Children’s Place. Too loose, and you’ll have noodle arms no matter how many bicep curls you do. Done right, and you’ll look as cool as James Dean himself.
