Some people think a strong work ethic means outworking everyone else. I disagree. That can be too competitive and shortchanges people who have great work ethics.

Hard and focused work, solid character, and high integrity are some keys to a terrific work ethic.

If you can bring good character and solid integrity to your efforts, your work ethic will surely shine. It does take a bit of enthusiasm, too.

“Industriousness is unattainable without enthusiasm.” — John Wooden

Enthusiasm will carry you through a tough stretch, where character is tested and integrity is questioned. Enthusiasm lifts us up, as well as those around us.

Part of having a terrific work ethic is also having a terrific rest ethic.

When you are working, I would hope you are focused on your work and not thinking about your weekend. Likewise, when you are not working, leave work alone and focus on your rest or recreation.

Today is a new day. Let today be the day your team starts talking about your good character, solid integrity, wonderful enthusiasm, and terrific work ethic.
