Spring is winding down, and summer is around the corner. Lately, I have been spending time in my garden. It is the prime season to plant, prune, and fertilize as we anticipate the growth that will lead to garden delights.

Time in my garden had me thinking about all the work that goes into producing healthy plants. And I began drawing correlations between that and what it takes to lead a team, an organization, or your life.

Let’s start by saying it is not easy. When I left the city pre-pandemic to move to a rural area, I had visions of flowering bundles of flowers and a garden blossoming and producing bountiful harvests. I was determined to do it “the natural way” without man-created pesticides and fertilizers ladened with environmentally harming chemicals. I never imagined how hard that would be or how much I needed to learn.

Being a gardener has so many correlations to what it is like to be a leader. In this post, I will share my thoughts on those correlations and give you some practical advice on how you can integrate gardening success secrets with leadership acumen.

Let’s start by saying that gardening is pretty simple. You can boil it down to three main things:

  • Quality of the Seed
  • Nurturing and Care
  • Healthy Environment
