So far bestowed 17 times upon art and printing greats,
Prof. Mahendra Patel became the first Indian recipient of the Mainz Gutenberg Award.

The award was jointly established in 1968 by City of Mainz and The International Gutenberg Society to celebrate outstanding artistic, technical or scientific attainment in the domain of the art and printing.
Prof. Mahendra Patel’s work on ‘Type Design Development of Indian Scripts’ and ‘Map and Signage Design Systems for several cities’ were his projects considered by jury for the award. He was invited by the mayor of the City of Mainz to receive this award at Mainz, Frankfurt on the 26th of June 2010.
