In this LEAP block we are all super cool people who do things differently. Instead of writing down our experience we’re going to educate our audience through a DOPE podcast. We have a professional setup with Nic Guibet, A.K.A Young Croissant, handling all the equipment. Every week we get together in our customised “studio” to talk about what we did that week, how we felt about it and lay down some SICK BARS! (insert scratch noise here or something.

Leap Students 3.0

In the first week we did a lot of cool things as team building activities. On the first day we went canyoning, to see if it would be a suitable place to bring fifth graders on an excursion. We jumped off some rocks, made damns, and did some stone stacking. Although it was really fun and seemed like something the students would enjoy, some parts of the trek were difficult, especially for fifth graders. We felt like they’re limbs wouldn’t be long or strong enough to scale past some parts of the canyon. I think we could bring the kids on this trek, but we’d need a team to help them on the difficult parts.

We also created a game called “Darf Ball”, it’s like baseball but better. You have a long stick that you have to hold like Darth Maul to use as a bat. The aim of the game is to hit the ball and make it past all the bases back to where you started. While you run, the other team can throw the ball at at you and if it hits you you’re out. You can block the ball from hitting you with your bat and keep running. They can also pass it to one of their teammates who is waiting at the base you’re running to, if they catch it before you get there you’re out.

Lastly, we talked about what project we were going to take on. There were a lot of ideas such as creating a dehydrator, creating a half-pipe, fixing the buggy and finding a use for it, a reef restoration project and much more. In the end we decided to go with the reef restoration because it was the one that everyone was most excited about. It’s a substantially large project and takes up all of our leap time, which means we wont have time to take on multiple major projects.
