This is the Nung-Nung waterfall. With 50 meters it is the highest waterfall on Bali.

On Tuesday, 28th of February 2018, our teachers Ibu Jackie, Pak Noan and Ibu Charlotte told us we were going for an adventure the next day. No child in Leap jr. knew where we were going, but all of us wanted to know . The teachers didn’t want to spoil the surprise. The next day was the 1st of March and we met in the Heart of School at 8:15. Our teachers told us we should go to the parking lot where the Bio Bus was parked. We got into one of the three buses. The Bio Buses run with recycled oil that they get from the restaurants. When we all got in, we started to drive. Our teachers gave us the task to talk to another kid in Leap jr. and partnered us up with someone that we didn’t know very well. It was a whole new experience to learn about the history of another person that you didn’t know very well and write a small story from what we learned. This took the whole bus ride to the “mystery” adventure.

After one hour and a bit we arrived. We were on a hill and needed to walk down a steep hill for fifty meters and then we needed to walk down stairs. Already at the beginning, we heard a splashing sound; it sounded like water falling down or a river that has a very wild raft. We walked down more steps, but they didn’t seem to end.

We could see a bridge and we walked over it. The sound of water falling or moving was even stronger, but when we looked down we saw water. It wasn’t moving very fast, and as a matter of fact it was just flowing normal. The water was pretty clear yet still a bit brown. There were a few small rocks sticking out of the water. They looked very slippery, and there where a few sticks stuck behind the stones as the current pushed them into the small rocks.

We continued walking and the sound of the water falling just got stronger and stronger. Then we saw a pretty slippery floor made from rocks. When we were down there we saw it, a big waterfall, the biggest on Bali made from clear water and it was very white as it fell down the cliff. It was astonishing! After we all arrived, some of us started to go into the water in front of the waterfall. The water was very cold, but refreshing and the small drops from the waterfall could even hurt when we were standing close to the waterfall. After all of Leap jr. were out of the water again, we started pairing up with the people. We got paired up in the bus to talk about their partner’s history and what they like. After that we started to begin to the walk up the stairs to the bus.

When we arrived at the top we were pretty tired. Our teachers said we could get something to eat, but nothing that was wrapped in plastic. As a matter of fact, that was everything except for fresh fruits. There weren’t many fresh fruits, only Guava, Banana, coconuts and Durian. The Lady from the café, which is called warung. She gave us many free guavas because she was nice. We got two coconuts and and one Durian. Everyone tried the Durian except a few people who didn’t like it. It tastes creamy and every small piece had a big core that was three times as big as the piece you could eat. I hated it… the taste and texture just did not feel right in the mouth.

After we finished, we got back into the bus and then made ourselves ready for the one and a-half hour ride back from the mountains. When we arrived back at school our teachers told us that this adventure should help us to know the other Leap jr. students better so we could think not only what we liked, but what the whole group liked and were interested in. This helped us when we listened to the pitches the next day, but that is a story for another time.

This was a very cool adventure to get to know us better and the Waterfall was also very nice and very astonishing.

This is us, the Leap jr. crew in front of the waterfall.
