It’s time to wreck the competition.

Turns out you don’t need to keep a Scrabble dictionary or a clipboard of word lists constantly by your side to get better at Scrabble. Whether you’re a Scrabble or Words with Friends junkie, you know that having an arsenal of words at your disposal is way more effective than having the right letters.

Wait, people are really into Scrabble?
For any Scrabble enthusiast, this word game is more than just letter tiles on a board. It’s an all out assault on an opponent’s vocabulary. It’s planning your 7-letter words three steps ahead. It’s winning by any means possible (and that are limited to your living room, of course).

How to launch a full-blown nuclear war on your opponents

Do your friends just love to make plurals out of your carefully planned words? Do they just not know what they’re doing with D and T tiles? NO. MORE.

When you spot their weaknesses, exploit them.
Unless you’re a Scrabble fanatic, most people play simple words. Leave your endings difficult to play on. A low-scoring word that your opponent can’t score on might be better than that high-scoring word they can easily take advantage of.

Always be on the offensive — never defensive. It’s time to finally stick it to the friend that thinks it’s okay to play “QI” even though they have NO IDEA WHAT THE DEFINITION IS!

Conserve your versatile tiles
Blanks and S’s are the equivalent to a Get Out of Jail Free card or water in a desert. Keep them guarded and be ready to pounce when you see that your opponent has made a mistake.

Shuffle your tiles often
One of the most underused strategy, but one of the most effective. Different perceptions of your tiles will yield different and valuable results.

Practice strategies

  • Play against yourself. Set up a board with J, Q, X, Z and put out four sets of seven. See how many words you can make.
  • Practice high-scoring 2 letter words to combat your opponent’s.
  • Practice Q without U words to stick it to your enemy.
