In an increasingly digital world, it’s important that we make sense of the changes happening around us. One of the most prominent changes in the past decade is our use of smartphones. According to the Pew Research Center, 92% of adults 18–29 owned a smartphone in the US in 2017, and that number will likely rise in the future. Additionally, around 82% of high school students use a smartphone. What this means for the education world is more and more students can leverage their devices in the classroom.

The Meaning of Data

Smartphone users expend about 2 gigs of data in a given month. To put that into perspective, that’s about 80 hours of music, 17 hours of video streaming, or 84,000 emails. But how can a small percentage of that data be used educationally, without jeopardizing data plans? FactSumo features no bulky videos or streaming services, so your data remains virtually untouched! We make sure to utilize the smallest amount of data when you’re off wifi, which averages to about 1% of your data plan.

More Learning, Less Data

That’s why it’s important to understand data plans when using FactSumo. Wifi isn’t always available, and many believe that relying solely on data plans to use apps can be costly. But did you know that our app can be downloaded and then used offline? So there’s no need to worry about running out of valuable data while students seamlessly learn at home or at school. And when students need to sync their progress again, they can use a small amount of data, or connect to wifi for a limited time. As smartphone usage amongst high school students rises, so too will the seamless learning they’ll be able to achieve on their devices.

How FactSumo Fits In

Most smartphone data depletes because of entertainment applications like Netflix and Spotify. But data can also be used up quickly by social media apps like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. FactSumo puts fears of running out of data to rest, because once you download the app over wifi, you’re free to use it offline wherever and whenever, no data required. Is wifi not always available or reliable at your school? No problem. Even if you do need to dip into your data plan, rest assured it won’t make a dent like those other apps.
