We aren’t the only ones who view young people as creators and innovators. Many people and groups hold similar beliefs. Great things usually happen when these people and groups come together.

Our mission at CrowdSchool is to put creative learning at the heart of school. We have a passionate belief that students have the ability to create knowledge, develop ideas, solve problems, and bring stuff into existence. Creativity is an essential part of being human, and we believe school should be a place where students create to learn.

Want to hear something exciting? We aren’t the only ones who view young people as creators and innovators. Many people and groups hold similar beliefs. Great things usually happen when these people and groups come together. Here’s an example - Youth Pitch Day, Los Angeles.

Youth Pitch Day is a one day event hosted by Yang Camp and Girls in Tech LA where young people of all different ages code, make, tinker, and problem-solve with the help of some fantastic organizations. The goal is for young people to create a unique idea or product inspired by the various modes of creative learning facilitated throughout the day. With the help of teachers and mentors, young people hone their unique idea or product so they can pitch it to an authentic audience at the end of the day. Pretty groovy stuff!

CrowdSchool had the privilege of participating in Youth Pitch Day on Saturday, May 2. We helped young people learn the basics of creating a campaign. The participants then created a campaign to prevent bullying in their community. This is a much smaller version of a project based Challenge teachers use in classrooms across the country. It was inspiring to see the thorough and thoughtful ideas created by kids at the event. Even though our time was brief, kids took on the Challenge and produced some great work. We can’t wait for the next one!

Check out some pictures from the event:

With CrowdSchool, kids use technology to complete project based Challenges. This bullying prevention Challenge is a shorter version of a PBL Challenge used by teachers across the county.
Kids collaborated to build a campaign poster for CrowdSchool’s Bullying Prevention Challenge at Youth Pitch Day.
Kids used web resources on CrowdSchool’s Bullying Prevention Challenge to create a social media hashtag.
A group of very young kids stretched their writing skills to create a campaign poster.
The CrowdSchool team was super happy to see kids learn, make, and share using project based Challenges.
