Intro to HTML with Codecademy.
As a tech enthusiast, I’ve always wanted (and tried) to take up coding. I’ve tried with Codecademy before but had stopped after four sections — I don’t know why, probably got distracted. It’s now been 10 months, and I still want to learn. So I’m starting over.
It wasn’t till I finished two sections that I realized I want to record my studying. I’ve always learned best by taking notes and reviewing them afterwards, so why not do the same for Codecademy? So here we go, from the BEARY (you’ll see why) beginning.
(*Note that I’ve named sections of Codecademy to my convenience of explaining them here. The site doesn’t actually say “Topic 1”, “Lesson 1”, etc.)
Topic 1 Introduction to HTML

Lesson 1: HTML Basics. Very useful information, since it explains the basics of HTML, including what those four letters stand for. I learned that the order in which closing tags are added is really important. Since there are a lot of tags, I found it easiest to think of a HTML page as a person: the head always ends before the body does. Note my crude illustration above— see what I mean?
So here’s my end result from Lesson 1:

Lesson 2: BYOW. That stands for Build Your Own Webpage. If you thought it’s Bring Your Own Wine, no worries —the Codecademy page doesn’t actually say “BYOW”. I just felt lazy. This section is basically you practising what you learned in the previous section, by making a webpage with a heading, links, and image(s). Let me get right to my end product:

So far — enjoying it and smiling at these cute images I found through Google Image search. The Codecademy page says estimated course time is 7 hours, so I’m aiming to finish the entire HTML & CSS course in 7 days. I might end up taking a day or two longer, but they say setting a specific goal always helps!
Oh and here’s a photo of the notes I took today. I’m trying to hold myself accountable by sharing my notes on Medium like this every day.
