How to create and do a live poll with PollEverywhere

1. Sign up

  • Go to PollEverywhere and select “Sign up”. It’s free up to 40 participants.
  • Fill out the information.
  • You have now created a profile.

2. Create poll

  • Choose “Create Poll” in the top left corner.
  • You can now add your question.
  • Select how your students must answer the question.

Your options:

Open Ended: Answer with free text.

Multiple Choice: Answer by choosing between multiple predefined choices.

Discourse (only paid licens): Answer with free text. Hereafter, the free text can be voted on by the other participants.

Clickable Image: Answer by tagging a photo, e.g. on a timeline. You can define a specifict area as the correct answer.

Yo (only paid version): Answer with a “Yo”. Particants can either vote Yo og don’t vote.

  • You can add as many questions as you want.
  • When you are done, click “Create”.
  • You have now created your questions.

3. Live polling

a) Create a group with your questions

  • In order to do a live poll with multiple question, you first need to create a “group” with all the questions.
  • Select the questions you want to use.
  • Click “Group”.
  • You have now created a group with multiple questions.
  • Click “Edit” to change the name of the group.

b) Start your poll

  • In order for a question to be accessible for the participants, it needs to be startet.
  • Choose the questions you want to make accessible. If you want a whole group to be accessible, tick off the title to select them all.
  • Click “Start”.
  • When your questions are green, it means that they are visible.
  • Now click on the question you want to begin with. You can begin with any question in the group.

c) Do the poll live

  • You will now be directed to your poll.
  • To start your poll, select “Toggle Fullscreen”.
  • The poll will open in full-screen. It is now “live” and therefore accessible for the participants.
  • This is how your poll look in full-screen.
  • At the top, you will find the link/URL, which the participants must use. The link looks like this: pollev.com/username
  • Make sure that your poll is “live”. Check the menu in the top right corner. The “live” icon will light up in green if the poll is accessible for your participants.
  • Navigate between your questions by using the right/left arrow keys on your keyboard, or by using the forward/back buttons in the bottom right corner.

4. How the participants vote

Where to answer?

  • Participants can answer via the link at the top of your poll.
  • The link is attached to your profil, which means it stays the same for every poll you make.
  • Participants can vote via computer, smartphone, or tablet.

How does it look?

  • When the participants answer, the answers will appear in realtime on your computer.

5. Find and reset the results

a) Find the results (only in paid licens)

  • With a paid licens (borrow from CULmedialab if you work a BSS, Aarhus University) you have the option to view a diagram of the results.
  • Select “My Polls”.
  • Select the questions you would like the results from. Select the group to select a whole group of questions.
  • Click “Report” at the top to view the results.
  • You will now be directed to the result page. Here, you can select different ways to view the results.
  • Select for instance “Summary” to view the results in number of responses and per cent.

You can download the results as an Excel file under “Download” in the top right corner.

b) Reset the results (every licens)

  • Before you restart your poll, be aware that you cannot access that particular execution afterwards. You should therefore always make sure to download it before you restart.
  • Choose “My Polls”.
  • Select the questions you want to restart. Tick off the group name to select all.
  • Choose “Clear Results” in the top menu to restart the results.
  • Your poll has now been restarted, and you can run it again.
