On Starting Udacity Machine Learning Nanodegree

Udacity recently held a “Udacity Transcend Award” where the scholarship receivers will be able to do their chosen nanodegree’s for free. Unfortunately enough I didn’t notice that it was only for the US citizens.

However, Udacity Machine Learning Team was so considerate that they gave me a 6 months scholarship for taking the nanodegree(the original Transcend award was 3 months). I mostly gave up on it until last Friday this email ended up in my inbox!

Imagine my shock :D

Now I’ve confirmed that I’ll probably be starting the Machine Learning nanodegree from this Monday! I’m really excited about it and I’ve already brushed up my descriptive statistics. Now I’m reviewing inferential statistics and linear algebra in this weekend.

I feel somewhat nervous too. I really want my predictive models to do well in the end, even if it’s subject to a lot of feedback. I could have taken the courses on my own, but then I will never know how good my current modelling skills are unless I ask friends/mentors, but even in that case it’s hard to get the structure right. I also do well in semi-structured learning curriculums.

So, I’m super excited to start the nanodegree. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it with a targeted capstone project!.
