Hello, we are team Entrée, Side and Dessert from Learning Media Design course of Carnegie Mellon University. We are working on an interactive workspace design called “LAUNCH”, and this is our little space to record our work, progress, and thoughts throughout the whole research, design and prototyping process. Welcome!

We are taking this course called Learning Media Design, and we work with Winchester Thurston Upper School maker space project to help them figure out some potential problems related to portfolios and hopefully provide a solution to that.

Learning Media Design is a course in Carnegie Mellon, focusing on the design and creation of effective and engaging technology-enhanced learning experiences for diverse learners. To collectively engage in a design inquiry process and learn methods to define, craft, prototype, and assess innovative learning media products, we are working with actual stakeholders and end-users to tackle a real-world design challenge in education.

Winchester Thurston has had this maker space project for several years, students get to pick on the theme that they are interested in, then work under the guidance of instructors and experts from outside campus to fulfill their design. They also document their work and thoughts along the process and use these materials for portfolio creation. Our goal is to help improve this process for multiple stakeholders, such as instructors, students, parents and directors.

After first getting general information on the project, we will decide the guidelines for researches on separate stakeholders, and then conduct interview and contextual inquiry. We plan to get to the classroom with contextual observation, and combine the result with on-site interview transcripts. We will be utilizing affinity diagram and diagnostic mapping methods to generate insights and then finally offer a solution for stakeholders.
