As a graphic designer the information in the article “Typography for Glanceable Reading: Bigger Is Better” is not only helpful but also validating in many ways. While working on design projects I often want to be able to prove to my clients a specific Typeface or font treatment is the correct one despite what they want.

As a designer you are subjected to the whims and mercy of bad design suggestions. Reading “How to Deal With Bad Design Suggestions“ is also helpful. The following are the steps suggested in that article:

  1. Lose the Ego
  2. Hear Them Out

3. Separate the Suggestion from the Problem

4. Assess the Potential

5. Buy Some Time for Research and Exploration

6. How to Say “No”

7. Speaking Truth to Power

8. Prevent These Issues by Seeking Early Design Input

I have instituted the above steps many times in throughout my own career. However, adding actual scientific proof for example, from the recent study from MIT’s Agelab/Clear-IP researchers led by Dr. Ben D. Sawyer will now be an additional step. I have often dreamed of having actual researched proof as to what the best graphic design solution is, dreams do come true.
