How We Reached First 1000 Followers on Instagram with These 3 Rules

There are plenty of articles about how to get X,000 visitors, followers or customers. From our own experience we can say that the first 1000 is the hardest part. We elaborated our own practical rules which helped us to get first 1000 followers from scratch specifically on Instagram with a budget of zero.

Rule #1: Create a “card”

Create attractive visual content — that’s the concept that written in many articles. Easier said than done, but it’s always possible. In our case we wanted to create content which helps our Instagram followers learn English idioms. So we invented an “idiom card” which contains an idiom, its meaning and an example.

A similar approach could be used for different topics. Just find a way how to describe your content briefly. For example, if your content is about cooking, you can make a “recipe card” which describes how to cook a dish in 3 steps. If your content is about photography, it could be a card with digital photography tips to get great pictures. And so on.

We went further and made two more cards, a “fun card” which shows an idiom in a fun way and an “inspirational card” with a remarkable quote which uses an idiom.

So along with useful content you can add some fun content. We use photo stock images, it’s not difficult to find paid or free photo stocks and use their images in your “cards”.

Rule #2: Post every day

It’s not easy but it’s required to post every day to involve new followers and keep existing ones following your Instagram.

A combination of one “useful card” and one “fun card” is enough for a day. Post one card in the morning and one in the evening.

Rule #3: Use hashtags

We created accounts in six big social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest) and it turned out that only on Instagram using hashtags actually worked. There are hashtags which we use often.

#idiom #idioms #english #englishidioms #learnenglish #pun #punny #quote #quotes #quoteoftheday #smartquotes #inspirationalquotes

So use as many hashtags as you can invent but not too many because it will look spam. Use a short description or ask a question to your audience and put the hashtags after it. Don’t forget to answer to your followers in comments.

You probably expected a bigger article? Nope, this is it, only three simple rules. If you follow them, you’ll get your first 1000 followers on Instagram.
