We‘re happy to announce that the latest update (1.1.14) of GoodNotes for Mac now supports handwriting-to-text-conversion.

How does it work?

  1. Select the Edit tool in the toolbar and drag a square around a portion of handwriting you want to convert.
  2. Right click on the selection
  3. Choose convert
  4. You can now copy the converted handwriting to your clipboard and paste it either to the page or anywhere else

About GoodNotes for Mac

GoodNotes for Mac is a companion app to the iOS version of GoodNotes. It enables you to effortlessly view and manage your files on the Mac. With drag and drop support, it is convenient to add multiple files to the GoodNotes library for annotation. Edits and changes you make in your documents in GoodNotes for Mac will sync to your other devices via iCloud. The app allows you to restore past version of your documents using Time Machine.

We‘re planning to add more unique features to the Mac version of GoodNotes to make it the perfect file manager for your handwritten notes and annotated documents on your Mac. GoodNotes for Mac can be purchased separately from the iOS version on the Mac App Store.

FAQ about GoodNotes for Mac:

Q: I have purchased the iOS version, why do I have to buy the Mac version again?

A: Due to the way of the App Store works, there is no way to bundle an iOS and a Mac version. Furthermore, the development work for both versions is different and developing a Mac version requires a lot of additional work because the code can‘t be easily shared across platforms.

Q: Can I install the Mac app on my other Macs after purchasing it?

A: Yes, you can install the Mac app on any of your other MacOS devices as long as you‘re signed in to the same AppleID.

Q: Why can‘t I use a feature in the Mac version that works on iOS?

A: With both apps we try to take advantage of the individual operating systems and the devices they‘re running on. That is why the feature set not congruent across versions. However, we‘re planning to add more features to the Mac version in the near future.

Q: How can I sync my documents across my devices?

You‘ll need to sign in to the same iCloud account on all of your devices and activate “Use iCloud“ in the iOS version under Options > Settings > iCloud. For more information on how to use iCloud, please check out the iCloud section in our help center.
