Education Ecosystem is building the Netflix for professional development. Our goal is to provide product subscribers in our ecosystem with access to the largest project learning library in the world. To help achieve this goal, the role of Head of Curriculum has been recently filled by Helen Tang. We’ve prepared an interview with Helen so that she can tell us about her background and the work she’s doing for the ecosystem.

1)Tell us about your background.

I’ve worn many hats throughout my career. Before I joined Education Ecosystem I was actually spending some time as a writer and editor in the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. Prior to that I was CTO at GoTogether where I introduced new technology to product development, oversaw a large-scale e-commerce website tech strategy and did research in cloud computing and data science applications. I also held the role of Chief Product Officer, where I was responsible for web & mobile app product definition, marketing and operation planning.

Other positions I’ve held throughout my career include 10+ years as a software engineer with 5+ years programming in an academic environment. I’ve worked for Motorola for 7 years in telecom infrastructure and mobile handset projects, 3 years in retail and wholesale software systems. I’ve also worked for Boston Scientific as QA for a medical device.

I’ve even spent some time as an Artificial Intelligence & Computer Vision specialist — although I didn’t finish my Ph.D thesis, I spent 3 years working on several AI research projects. One of these was Pattern Recognition for GE, another was an Artificial Neural Network project for EPA

2) What is your role at Education Ecosystem? What made you interested in joining?

I am Head of Curriculum. I’m responsible for educational content acquisition management and oversee all of the category managers. As you can tell my background is varied, but it encompasses many of the categories which we focus on at Education Ecosystem. I think this makes me a great fit for the role as I have a deep understanding of what the company is aiming for and the level of quality which will be required for our projects.

It was appealing for me to be among the very best from industries like AI, VR/AR, blockchain, cybersecurity, game development, data science, design, and advanced programming. Having worked in the AI, software development, blockchain, and e-commerce fields, I know how experience in these technologies is coveted by corporations and startups. Education Ecosystem is bridging the gap between theory and practice, between college and a well-paid job and I’m very excited to be part of this great cause.

3) What are some of the things you’ve been working on since joining the company?

I have been working on content acquisition management, including content planning, project approval, quality assurance, content creator community engagement and more.

4) What is the most challenging thing about working in the blockchain industry?

The challenge I face each day is getting things done yesterday — speed is king. At a fast moving startup like ours this is the fundamental thing. Blockchain technology is also relatively new so things are constantly changing as we’re just in the early stages of this industry. This is another reasons why speed is important and the biggest challenge, we need to be able to make adjustments to our product as we receive new information.

5) How will your work benefit the ecosystem?

My job is to help the company acquire high-quality projects as fast as possible, at low costs, and reach the 10,000-project goal within budget. Our goal is to disrupt the $360B professional development industry, and building a huge library of high quality projects for our subscribers to learn from is fundamental to making that happen.

Having worked as a writer in crypto/blockchain space, it is clear to me that blockchain will be a key component of the future and cryptocurrency will be the stimulant for businesses. It is also a community building mechanism that allow a large number of people with common interests to work together for a common goal.

For this new revolution to take place fast, we need a large number of blockchain talents working in all sectors and industries. Universities around the globe have started to offer blockchain courses and degrees, but theory is not enough for corporations and startups. They need employees with hands-on experience, and they need these people fast to catch up the trend. Education Ecosystem can just do that and help usher in the blockchain era.
