Your (First Ever) Postgraduate Ball 2019

Ah, the life of a Postgraduate student! Instead of being able to take full advantage of a long hot summer, free from the shackles of university work, we are confined to the library, chained to the desk, finishing (or at least attempting to finish…) the all-important dissertation. What we’d give to be Freshers again; crazy house parties and library sessions that didn’t exceed 12 hours. Yes, life before a Postgraduate degree seems a distant memory ago, but does that mean that the celebrations have to stop? Absolutely not! In response to the tough times that can arise at this stage in our degrees, we believe that having one final hurrah with the course friends who have both helped us and needed our help is one which is well deserved. This is where the idea started taking shape — why not throw the first ever Ball for Postgraduate students right here at Leeds?

It is our goal to give our fellow students the opportunity to commend their academic efforts together by taking them away from the setting of stuffy seminar rooms and cramped lecture theatres, and instead providing them with a night of elegance and non-stop entertainment. For one night only, what you study is irrelevant — the Postgraduate Ball is here to celebrate everyone. From rides and roulette to music and magic, the night will be filled with an array of spectacles to be enjoyed by all.

It is undeniable that the pressures which come with being a Postgraduate will soon be faced by the next influx of students, something which we can safely say we empathise with. Therefore, we would love for the Postgraduate Ball to become somewhat of a legacy for future students, easing their academics pressures in advance by giving them something to look forward to at the end of a hard year’s work. Whilst this is the very first time the event runs, we hope it certainly won’t be the last.

So, whether it’s your dinner suit or your dancing shoes, get them out from storage. We look forward to seeing you all there — don’t forget, keep an eye on your email or join our Facebook group for updates, and tickets go on sale 18 June!
