Flowers are starting to grow, little by little is getting warmer and World Unite Festival is just around the corner one more time! If you are new to the University, probably it is the first time you hear those words. And most likely, you are wondering, what is it exactly? So here goes a quick explanation.

Every year, the Union in partnership with the University holds a week of events to celebrate how diverse our student body is. This year, the festival will take place between the 11th and the 17th March and there are events for all tastes!

Do you love to learn about new cultures through food? Then you should go to the British Tea Party and celebrate British culture while eating scones. If after that you are still hungry, go to the A Bite of the World Bistro event, where you will be able to taste different countries through their buffet and learn interesting facts in their quiz. Or if you’re a postgraduate student, and want to explore the different international foods the city has to offer, join the Taste of Leeds restaurant crawl on the Monday or Tuesday.

If your thing is learning new languages, this could also be your opportunity. On Tuesday you have the chance to learn a bit of Tagalog, the language of the Philippines. On Wednesday, you can teach your language while learning a new one on the Language Exchange held in Common Ground and on Thursday you can practice your Spanish watching the film screening of ‘La película de nuestra vida’.

There are also activities for crafts lovers. There is an Origami workshop held by the British Born Chinese Society on Monday and you can attend the Postcard Making event on Thursday if you would like to create a handmade postcard and to send it that friend that lives somewhere else in the world.

To finish the week in the best possible way, on Friday there is going to be a carnival-style parade with cultural dances, music and also a flag parade by students. If you want to be part of this celebration of multiculturalism and parade your flag the only thing you need to do is sign up!

Do these events sound interesting? Well, there is actually much, much more. Choose your favourite event, join it and celebrate how lucky we are having so many different cultures on campus.
