What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term that translates to — Knowledge of Life. It emphasizes the total wellness of your mind, body, and spirit. It‘s a holistic approach that considers your lifestyle, focuses on your diet and exercise, and prescribes naturally available plants and their products to cure or prevent various illnesses. Ayurveda is similar to maintaining and servicing your car, driving safely by following traffic rules, avoiding drunken driving, over-speeding, etc., to live safely.

What Ayurveda Can’t do?

However, Ayurveda is not a complete alternative to the billion-dollar English/Western medicines, treatments, surgeries, and their wide range of medical test equipment. Also, based on my experience no Ayurvedic doctor will claim that they will guarantee a cure for all serious ailments after the person has been inflicted by them. All they can say is their medicines can prevent further degeneration, reduce its intensity, and let the body start its natural repair.

For example, you cannot rush to an Ayurvedic doctor if,

You have met with a traffic accident and bleeding. For this, you have to rush to emergency and trauma care in a hospital.

You have collapsed at home/office due to a blockage in your heart caused by junk foods, fatty diets, a sedentary lifestyle, etc. For that, you need angioplasty or bypass surgery and complicated equipment to remove the block with a stent. But Ayurveda would have prescribed a lifestyle and diet that would have prevented the block from forming in your heart.

You have a fracture in your bones. For this you have to rush to an orthopedic, and so on.

What is this Article about?

However, this article is not about the benefits of Ayurveda nor am I a doctor. This article is about my observations of a steep increase in attacks being unleashed by English/Western doctors and pharma industries on Ayurveda. Of late, several English/Western doctors have started covert/overt hit jobs, scaremongering, and tool kits on Ayurveda through articles, social media posts, tweets, WhatsApp messages, speeches, etc., to debunk Ayurveda and scare patients who are currently using or planning to use Ayurveda for some of their ailments.

Why do they do Hit Jobs and Activate Tool Kits?

The reason for these hit jobs is simple. Indians and citizens of other countries are seriously exploring alternate medicines as English/Western medicines, treatments, consultations, and hospitalizations have become unaffordable. Nowadays, a person can be financially ruined if he or she gets hospitalized. Naturally, people will explore affordable alternate medicines to keep themselves healthy. Now, this is an eyesore for big pharma as it will cause financial losses if more and more people choose low-cost alternatives. For example, turmeric is an ancient Ayurvedic medicine with various benefits used for centuries in India. Now due to global trade turmeric and other Ayurvedic medicines are making their way into western supermarkets, kitchens, and pharmacies. So, how do western doctors and pharma stop this? It’s not possible to directly stop the import of Indian medicines due to trade agreements, legal issues, customer demands, etc.

How do they do Hit Jobs?

So, what can they do? It’s simple, they start defaming and debunking Ayurveda in the online/offline media using their cabal of medical stooges, poodles, and brown coolies in India who are willing to sell their souls to get western appreciation and funding. And we also have plenty of newbies who will join the bandwagon to get their 15 minutes of fame. As you are aware, social media can be easily used to destroy someone’s reputation, create and spread fake news, unleash outrage, etc. In addition to scaremongering laymen, there will also be an array of official medical test reports (of the harm caused to various patients) uploaded to various scientific journals that will be used as a powerful scarecrow by the medical fraternity to frighten the public. For example, if you search the internet for the dangers of turmeric you will see scary reports in popular medical journals like the below screenshot.

And there are many doctors on Twitter/Facebook, etc., who have a regular hobby to defame Ayurveda and scare their followers/patients using such reports. Turmeric is not the only example. There are going after all Ayurvedic medicines by inventing scaremongering reports claiming that honey doesn’t work, milk is not good, green tea doesn’t work, six out of ten patients collapsed by taking X, we found high doses of lead/arsenic in Y, etc. Then, similar to how the leftist/liberal media amplifies and sensationalizes news that fits their agenda, various medical journals and websites also quickly distribute and amplify such medical news. For example, if fifty medical websites in their cabal distribute the same scary article on turmeric carefully reworded to avoid plagiarism then it will drown the few articles that recommend turmeric. While it may not scare a patient who has trust in Ayurveda it may scare and instill doubts in new patients and youngsters. Of course, it’s a known fact that any medicine from any source will have various side effects on various patients.

My Theory

Now I am not rejecting their medical reports outright as I am not a qualified medical doctor to understand the complicated terms and reports. Maybe those patients did face various complications when they were tested with Ayurvedic medicines. But I have a layman’s theory on why even good Ayurvedic medicines that work for Indians don’t work for most westerners. In my 30 years of corporate life, I have interacted and dined with plenty of westerners from America, Australia, Europe, etc. For example, when I was in Australia a coworker was admitted to a hospital for guess what? A bunch of ordinary ants had bitten her hands and legs in her garden. And I have seen other western coworkers fall sick for trivial reasons. Now in India ant bites are as common as sneezing and nobody gets hospitalized for that. Now, why did she get hospitalized? The answer is simple.

Most westerners have lost all immunity due to consuming excessive canned/processed foods and highly purified water that would have sucked and neutralized all essential nutrients from them. Even fruits are artificially ripened much before they become naturally ripe thereby losing their natural taste. I have observed that westerners and my own relatives settled abroad can’t even withstand our piping hot cups of coffee, spices, chillies, oily foods, ghee sweets, hot dishes, or mosquito bites when they come here. They would have become so delicate and sensitive that their tongues and bodies can no longer handle such strong foods. In fact, they even fall sick if they drink the medium filtered water that we consume every day in our homes. So, what does this mean? It means those westerners have become brittle mud horses who will collapse or get disoriented at the slightest of diet changes.

So, how will those delicate patients withstand Ayurveda which contains strong doses and concentrations of herbal products? Of course, it will produce freak results and complications if they are made to consume our Ayurvedic products in their natural concentration. For example, if 8 out of 10 Americans develop complications by consuming the powerful Ashwagandha it doesn’t mean 8 out of 10 Indians will also develop the same complications, and Ashwagandha can be automatically classified as a dangerous quack medicine by westerners. Their “don’t work” conclusions are based on patients who have lost the ability to withstand our foods and medicines. This is why the results of medical studies done on delicate westerners can’t be used as a scarecrow to stop Ayurveda usage by Indians.

The problem with English medicine experts is if they have discovered chalk powder as a cure or treatment for headaches and if Ayurveda says Tulsi can also treat headaches, then it’s automatically classified as a quack medicine because westerners don’t know about Tulsi. Essentially, if they don’t certify or have a medicine for some ailment in their expensive patented list, then partial/full treatment for that ailment cannot exist on our planet from other sources. Can’t find someone on Google? Then that person doesn’t exist.

They demand their version of scientific proof for everything. But many natural and herbal medicines knowledge in India have been passed down generations based on the plants and vegetables that grow in their areas. Everything doesn’t have to be proven because some people will prove what will benefit them financially. Even if there is no documented scientific rationale or certification by today’s English medicine, if it cures/treats some ailment it should be considered an acceptable medicine. For example, our sages knew the medical properties of Tulsi, Neem, Amla, and dozens of other natural herbs without million-dollar research and patents.

English/Western medical experts believe that they are the sole authority to evaluate and certify all medicines, including those that fall outside their domain. For example, they will pick all popular Ayurvedic medicines, test them in their labs and on patients, generate reports of the complications those patients experienced, upload them on websites, medical journals, etc., and start trumpeting. This is like invading someone’s home, finding/inventing various faults, and going out with a drum distributing pamphlets to the public. But Ayurvedic doctors will not pick popular western medicines and conduct the same exercises. For example, you will rarely see a long report on Paracetamol and dozens of other western medicines reviewed and uploaded on an Ayurvedic website.

Now you may argue that it’s a good idea for modern science to test and certify our ancient medicine for harmful substances and unacceptable practices. After all, they are spending their own time, money, and effort. Yes, there is logic in such arguments. But such reviews can also be done with a cunning agenda to defame and destroy the Ayurvedic industry by amplifying complications seen in delicate patients who cannot withstand Ayurveda. Such agendas are commonly done by the western dirty tricks departments to keep third-world countries from industrialization and be eternally dependent on imports. Such dirty tricks departments create self-serving rating agencies that downgrade human rights, press freedom, environmental issues, etc., of third-world countries and peddle such reports to blackmail their politicians to further their agenda. For example, the religious conversion racketeers from the Vatican also spend their own money to build free hospitals and schools worldwide but they are done with an agenda to convert the local population.

Also, modern western medicine is probably about 100 years old. But Ayurveda, Yoga, Meditation, Herbals, etc., are thousands of years old. Why should they subject themselves to scrutiny by a 100-year-old science and submit evidence to them? It’s like asking a PhD maths professor to convince a nursery maths student.

To summarize my theory, no medicines (western, ayurveda, homeopathy, unani, etc) can claim to be the sole cure/treatment/protector of health for all humans. Secondly, the internal strengths of people vary widely. A medicine that works for one person won’t give the same results for another person if he/she has other complications. Secondly, any patient/doctor who insists on scientific evidence of their definition of everything cannot be convinced. Hence, it’s left to the patient to personally dive in, experiment with it, and document the results before accepting or rejecting it. The author does not make any claims or guarantees that Ayurveda will work for everyone.
