Did U Build Ur “Ship to Wreck?”

Florence +The Machine has a song out now called “Ship to Wreck.” And the lyrics got me thinking:

“And Oh my love remind me, what was it that I said?

I can’t help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed

And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did?

Did I drink too much

Am I losing touch? Did I build this ship to wreck?”

Hmmm. Over all the years we spent together, and all the conversations, did it all just become static in my head?

Did we stop listening? Yes, big time. And when we stopped listening, we truly were on a ship we’d built to wreck. I couldn’t have seen that at first.

I was too busy trying to steer the ship alone, or too resigned to letting it drift. The relationship seemed too big and off course to set it right all by myself.

There’s a reason they say “All hands on deck” when a real ship is in trouble. Because that’s what’s needed to save that ship. That is not at all how my relationship was. Not even the last ten or so years!!

Do you see that too when you look back? Oh. My. Goodness. It’s so true.

No wonder I was always “sea-sick” in my heart. No wonder I felt that I was stumbling around, unable to walk any true course.

It was time to “jump ship” but I was too afraid.

But then the relationship storm threw me off deck. No choice but to go and be and do. No choice but to find my own ship.

I am so grateful for that now. Because guess what? After a very short solo swim, I boarded my. own yacht.

Yes, I’ve decided it’s a yacht. And I will float on in luxury and safety. And I will do all the things I know how to do, not just to keep my ship afloat, but to use my “true bearings” so I can spend my life on the luxury cruise I’ve always dreamt of.

We all go through major life transitions when relationships end… Through this website, I will share my thoughts as I walk the path of “New-Self” discovery. It doesn’t matter which side of 50 you are on. The real question is, Are you ready to live life? To forge a Path of Your Own Making (For a change!)? Then stop dwelling over the What-Might-Have-Beens and join me. Share your thoughts here, comment on mine, and let’s do this together!
