From head to sole, the human body relies on an intricate network of tissues, organs, and systems to function.

Except some organs appear to be more crucial than others. No, maybe not more crucial, but some seem to play more pivotal roles — life and death roles — than others.

While the body can still function with some organs working at half throttle, the tiniest issue with some other organs could spell massive trouble. One such organ that could use zero issues is the heart.

Pumping a paltry 2,000 gallons of blood every day, you couldn’t admire the machine-like pump sitting deep in the left side of your chest more. Nor can you afford to have it malfunction, as heart disease accounts for about a third of all deaths in the world.

Some have seen the benefit of keeping their heart functioning right, but many of us still have miles of room for improvement. We can start helping the heart function right by doing some of these little things.

Fuel it right

The heart puts in an impressive shift all-day and all night — especially without a spare to take over when it’s tired — by beating about 100,000 times a day.
