A Better Health Care Plan for American’s Veterans

Today, every American Veteran is eligible to use the Veterans Administration (VA) Health Care System, which is paid for by taxpayers. At the same time, each Veteran’s representative in Congress has a separate, private health insurance plan, also paid for by taxpayers.

My new plan is simple: let each Veteran have a choice to use either the VA Health Care System OR use the private health insurance plan used by Congress.

If Congress says ‘No’ to giving Veterans this choice, we — through an act of law — scrap the private health insurance plan used by Congress. This change would force all Congressional representatives to use the VA Health Care System for their health care needs, just like every Veteran, instead of the private insurance plan they now enjoy. If the VA Health Care System is good enough for Veterans, it should be good enough for Congress.

I’m willing to bet Congress will not approve Veterans use of the same private insurance plan they have. And that would be the exact moment when the VA Health Care System — and every Veteran — would finally get ALL the funding, and all the doctors, and all the nurses, they need.

If Veterans truly deserve the best this nation has to offer, Congress needs to make it happen.

Give every Veteran the choice!
